The invasion and occupation of Crimea by the Russian army effectively constitutes an act of war. The EU must now realise that it should no longer be allowed to get away with semantic acrobatics. It is a point of departure from which a strong and determined political response can be resolutely developed, in conjunction with the USA, Canada and the largest possible number of democratic countries.

L’invasion et l’occupation de la Crimée par l’armée russe constituent à tous les effets un acte de guerre. Les recours aux acrobaties sémantiques ne sont plus permis : l’Union européenne doit faire ce constat. Il s’agit d’un point de départ indispensable pour pouvoir élaborer avec tout le sang-froid nécessaire une riposte politique forte et déterminée, de concert avec les Etats-Unis, le Canada et le plus grand nombre de pays démocratiques.

Is the EU doomed to disgrace in Ukraine?

Now is not the time to reflect upon the disastrous (lack of) policy of the EU and its member-States towards Ukraine. The time for that will come soon enough.

Now is the time, however, for the EU to do whatever it can and should do in order to prevent a large-scale massacre and help all Ukrainians who are fighting for their freedom and dignity.

L’heure n’est pas à l’analyse de la (non)politique désastreuse de l’Union européenne et de ses Etats membres à l’égard de l’Ukraine. Cette heure viendra.

L’heure est à ce que l’Union européenne peut et doit faire maintenant, aujourd’hui, pour tenter, autant que faire ce peut, d’empêcher un massacre de grand ampleur et pour venir en aide à tous ces Ukrainiens qui luttent pour leur liberté et leur dignité.
